Documenting the lows makes the climb back to the top even more meaningful. But often, when photographing the players who’ve just lost, standing in front of them with a camera feels ‘cruel’. After all, the biggest stages often bring the greatest pain. Though the rational part of me says: Don’t hesitate. Press the shutter. This is your job. Yesterday, Boaster broke down in tears in front of me, and pressing the shutter at that moment was really difficult. At Masters Shanghai 2024, after FNATIC’s loss, Boaster cried backstage, his back facing me, full of sadness. I couldn’t bring myself to go near him. Later that same year in Berlin, Boaster and Yinsu heard I was doing Worlds and invited me to dinner. During the meal, Boaster asked, ‘Did you take any photos of me crying?’ I said, ‘Sorry, you were too heartbroken that time. I couldn’t bring myself to take the shot.’ He replied, ‘It’s okay. before Val (2019-2020): just broke into working into gaming, worked on VERY early VAL work at my first firm now (2025): worked on really fun VAL R&D prior to EA, dipped my toes in FPS product work (Apex), and now fully work in the gaming industry :)

We are hiring entry level Game Designers for both TFT and League!! 🎉🎉 We're looking for Designers that could be great at any of the core design functions on League: Champions, Modes, Ranked/Matchmaking, Balance, Seasonal Updates, etc. We're looking for passionate League players with deep familiarity. You don't need to be a high skill player, but you need critical thinking skills, creativity, problem solving, great collaboration skills, a hunger to learn and grow. Welcoming Career Jumps! We're particularly interested in professionals from fields that use these skills regularly; law, medicine, consulting, finance, engineering, etc. and haven't considered Game Design as an option. Maybe you are working in financial modeling and have a Masters in Math and have interest in Ranked/Matchmaking or are working in Law and could use that systemic thinking/edge case spotting for Game Systems. 2024 was my first full year working on @PlayApex! leading partnerships for the game while also supporting the esport has been such an amazing experience where i’m constantly learning and growing. i have so much coming for y’all in 2025 and i can’t wait for you to see it!
