If I want to start with students feeling more welcome, safe, and encouraged in the classroom with #shiftthis ideas, which one would be recommended to use first? Or be the most gradual? @JoyKirr
There is so many wonderful ideas in #shiftthis! A lot to process. I am thinking of where to start with my young students one area at a time. I’m thinking of how to GRADUALLY give the classroom to my students and teach them to own their learning. #jocobettertogether
An aha moment for me in #shiftthis was decoration of bulletin boards! We always think they have to be a certain way, but giving kids the chance to decorate them. I thought about open house and having students write/draw a picture on blank bulletin board!! #jocobettertogether 🤩
Most things I’ve read are outside of my comfort zone, I’m not really sure where to start implementing #shift this wonderful ideas in the classroom for 1st graders! #jocobettertogether@JoyKirr can you help!! 😊😁
@beall_amber What about simply creating one space that is organized and labeled with supplies for any of them at any time? Maybe keep the sharp supplies WAY low (so they don't fall on heads)?
@JoyKirr I think about the maturity of first graders and giving them my desk?! And I get really nervous. I know that there is a more gradual way but I really do like the idea of giving that space to them. Thoughts?
Wow #shiftthis!!One major thing to implement is giving students more choice in creating the classroom their own! I’m a 2nd year teacher I have always thought walls=anchor charts, student work, etc. but students should have a say! I plan to give it! #jocobettertogether@JoyKirr
My #shiftthis favorite quote so far is rather long so I thought to take a picture instead! This is what I want my class to be!! Active learning with large minds in tiny bodies. It may look like chaos but boy are they learning!! #jocobettertogether
#jocobettertogether This is one of my favorite read alouds that is not the most well known by Kevin Henkes but needs a shout out!! I enjoy this book because it not only is relatable to my kids and their younger siblings but also with me and my family!!
I am excited to learn a lot from the book #shiftthis to use in my classroom to help students own their learning and take more responsibility in what they are doing. I can’t wait to read about how I can practically apply the principles in this book. #jocobettertogether
I really think getting students out of the classroom can be so beneficial! I would like to implement out of this world and classroom hooks that will have my students curious for what we are teaching as well as remember it. We teachers need it too!! #TLAP#wsetogether#adventure
