Two ballots are handed to each voter, and two ballots are completed and handed back - but it looks like the Election Commission of #Thailand mysteriously did not count many of those party list ballots. This stinks to high heaven, and the only way to solve it is a nation-wide ballot recount, with observers looking over the shoulders of the counters at every step! Researcher Raises Concerns Over EC Figures Amid Growing Calls for Nationwide Recount Sarinee Achavanuntakul, a researcher and co-founder of the investigative news outlet ThaiPublica, has raised serious concerns over discrepancies in voter turnout figures published by Thailand’s Election Commission (EC), adding momentum to growing calls for a nationwide recount of the 2026 general election. In a social media post, Sarinee pointed to unofficial results on the EC website showing 95% of votes counted, noting that the number of voters casting ballots for constituency MPs did not match the number voting for party-list MPs in any province. She argued that the two figures should be identical because every voter receives two ballots — one for a constituency candidate and one for a party list — and both are counted once deposited, regardless of whether they are valid or spoiled. Discrepancies ranging from dozens to tens of thousands in some provinces, she said, could not reasonably be explained by human error. Sarinee also stated that advance voting and out-of-constituency ballots should not account for the mismatch, as ballots are issued and counted in pairs. While overseas postal voting might create minor inconsistencies, she suggested the scale of the discrepancies appeared too large to be accidental. She warned that if the figures displayed on the EC website do not reflect the actual totals reported by polling stations, the issue would be extremely serious. Sarinee called for a nationwide recount, the immediate release of polling station-level results, and greater media scrutiny of how the EC compiles and reports its data.
