you want to know why money will keep flowing to art and memes. because humans need beauty. we need humor. we need ways to process what we're experiencing. and everything else is negotiable but that's not. you can cut a lot of things from your life when money gets tight. but you can't cut meaning. and art creates meaning. memes create meaning. they give us frameworks to understand ourselves and the world. and that need doesn't go away when markets crash. it intensifies. look at every economic crisis in history: art persisted. sometimes it was the only thing that did persist. because people need it spiritually. they need ways to make sense of chaos. ways to connect with others. ways to feel less alone. and right now memes do that more efficiently than any art form in history. when something difficult happens the memes start immediately. people processing collective trauma through humor and shared imagery. that's art. that's exactly what art has always done. and you can either accept that and participate in the valuation of it or you can be left behind insisting that only oil paintings count. but the culture is moving with or without permission. and the money follows culture. always has. always will. so yeah when i say money flows to art i'm including all of it. the stuff in galleries and the stuff in your camera roll. because your camera roll is your personal collection and probably says more about what you actually value than any museum visit will.
