@micah_erfan Right. But the right is much more extreme now and wants to undo the entire New Deal and Great Society legislation/programs. And they've been very successful. They also want to rewrite history, so that this is all seen as radical left ideas that were bad for the US.

The Voting Rights Act was reauthorized by Reagan and Bush, and enforced by a Republican Supreme Court majority for 55 years. The idea that it was far-left partisan Democratic legislation is just ahistorical.

TRUMP: “It’s unconstitutional to seek congressional approval for war. No other country has to do that.” Trump has turned congress into his bitch. How embarrassing for them.

Sorry I disagree. The America has been a multiethnic/racial country since the 19th century and it's still America. The different peoples who come here have by and assimilated. But they have also ADDED to our culture, music, food, language etc.
Empire Aesthetics@Empireaesth

@beau_brummell None of this changes their DNA, language, institutions etc. America was founded by British people and will always be a fundamentally British nation. If that changes then it is no longer America.

OK. But I still think it's incorrect to say colonial America was "British." Again, that completely ignores the African slave population. Because they were slaves, they didn't exist? 🤣🤣🤣
Royal Texas Spreadneck@john_st_helen

@beau_brummell There were also French. But it doesn’t change the fact 80% British. None of these groups made up large numbers and for the most part were assimilated into Anglo norms by the early 19th century.

I'm not saying there were large numbers of Irish Catholics or Germans or Dutch. But they were here and many fought in the Continental Army. Orders sometimes had to be given in their native tongues, as would happen in the Civil War.
Galileo’s Go-Kart@IdiotusGigantus

@beau_brummell The Irish didn’t arrive in large numbers until mid-19th century.

Look up the influence of Iroquois Confederacy. It's true. Magna Carta was an influence, but so was the thinking of John Lock and Montesquieu. And Jefferson basically cribbed the format of the 1689 English Declaration of Rights for our own Declaration of Independence.
Jayhawker 01@JJT_007

@beau_brummell Iroquois confederacy point I believe is false, the Magna Carta was the influence.
