I've just come across our volunteer Becky's latest blog for @womenslibrary . As usual with her blogs I've ended up fascinated by something I thought I had no interest in (in this case, cricket). womenslibrary.org.uk/2024/09/30/bey…

I remember my ICT teacher (whose title alone ages this) said that one day you'd be able to get a gigabyte into the size of a fingernail to put into a digital camera. Here's 1,000 of them. It's still kinda magic, really.

One of the joys of getting to write this piece was diving into the collection of photos from the 1934-35 England tour of Australia & NZ held by @nlagovau. Mostly I included pics of the women playing cricket but there's also a lot of photos of other things they did there. 🧵1/7

@LouBell @womenslibrary For me, how volunteering is structured at GWL (@GabyMacbeth) is such an important part of why I've been there as long as I have. Vols have knowledge & insights which can enhance archives & museums if used well.

It was also just really great to hear @beccamale talking about the importance of volunteers and how important our work can be (@womenslibrary)!

Really enjoyed listening to @beccamale talking about knitting the archive through the Spare Rib’s “Woman’s Woolly” pattern, & also the process of knitting a more relevant jumper for today’s society - reflecting changes that have happened since that original pattern. @UkNatArcRes
