"I should have talked to the people in the green seats." Here was a big miss I had during my pro baseball career... Let me set the stage: Every day, successful people want to be around you. Every day, those successful people want to talk. Every day you have the opportunity/time to do just that. Yet you never do... This is the opportunity set for nearly every pro athlete (especially starting pitchers in MLB). You see, every day during Batting Practice, I used to look at the seats right behind home plate (At Busch Stadium, these are the "green seats") and not think twice. Yet the reality was (and still is) that sitting in those seats might be an athlete's next step, next opportunity, or next career. A person who could open far more doors than baseball alone. Yet most athletes (myself included) never take advantage of it. Look, I get it, we are so focused on the field, but let me remind you... "You will be a former player a lot longer than you will be a current player." And it turns out...those green seats might just hold the key to your next opportunity.
