Be very selective with what you respond to. It is your response that gives things importance. If you don't want it to matter ignore it.

Two days ago Linda Masarira was active on her X account, then the next thing we hear is that she died in her sleep. I always say to people, it is very dangerous to know secrets about ruthless criminals. They are not your friends & it is sad she chose to be part of them. RIP

🔹The passing of political activist and Labour Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) leader Linda Masarira has reignited a polarising debate across Zimbabwe’s political spectrum. Critics have rushed to brand her a “sellout “ and collaborator with the ZANUPF during the latter half of her career. However, this surface-level vilification ignores a deeper, more troubling systemic reality. Linda Masarira was fundamentally a victim of state brutality, and the shifts in her political behavior must be analysed as a survival response to structural trauma and institutional failure. 🔸 Masarira’s early political career was defined by fierce, uncompromising human rights activism. Her boldness made her a primary target of the state, resulting in a brutal stint of imprisonment in 2016. In jail, she faced the terrifying isolation of a system designed to crush human dissent. 🔹When she emerged, her trajectory shifted dramatically from active resistance to accommodating the system. This transformation was driven by two distinct forces: 1. The Trauma of Survival~ Adapting to and defending the regime became a defense mechanism ,a way to guarantee personal safety after realising the state's capacity for violence. 2. Abandonment by the Opposition~ While she languished in prison, the mainstream opposition failed to offer her adequate solidarity or tangible support. Her subsequent political realignment was fueled by a legitimate sense of betrayal by those she had risked her freedom to serve. 🔸 Attacking Masarira in death is cheap, hypocritical, and strategically impotent. It directs collective anger at a casualty of the system rather than the system itself. Expecting a single, traumatised individual to act as a perpetual martyr, while the broader public and political leadership remain comfortably SILENT,is a severe moral double standard. To blame the victim for being broken by the machine is to ignore the terrifying power of the machine itself. 🔹 The hypocrisy of her critics is laid bare by the current battle over Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 #CAB3. This highly contentious legislation seeks to strip away democratic safeguards by extending presidential and parliamentary terms to seven years. 🔸While certain voices waste energy denouncing a deceased activist, a massive portion of the current opposition leadership has maintained a cowardly, complicit silence on #CAB3. This silence is a far greater betrayal of the democratic struggle than Masarira's public shifts. Leaders who refuse to confront the regime on defining issues like #CAB3 are effectively selling out the future of the nation. 🔹 You cannot genuinely fight an oppressive system by attacking those it has managed to break. The focus must shift away from personal condemnation and toward holding sitting political leaders accountable for their silence. Until the opposition leadership finds the courage to confront the institutional beast directly, attacking the memory of Linda Masarira is nothing more than a distraction from collective political failure. RIP Linda Masarira 🙏🏽 Abasha 2030 ! Long Live Our Democracy! Long Live Our Constitution! Abasha Zvigananda!

LET DOWN BY THOSE SHE SERVED. She was my friend and confident. She loved Zimbabwe and did so much in the national interest. She did even more for the second republic but the system never recognized her love in return. In the last few years after Covid she struggled with respiratory issues, diabetes and heart complications. She constantly needed assistance to pay very costly health bills and government never helped, despite the huge role she played for them. Even now, I was laughing at her that she was still supporting CAB3 to prolong the term of those who never cared for her. Rest in peace my friend. We have lost a very powerful patriot. Now watch them spoil her in death but yet they never looked after her in life.

It is with a heavy heart that I mark the passing of Ms. Linda Masarira—a loss that leaves us all diminished. May she find eternal peace. This image captures our final encounter, around a #CAB3 discussion in Bulawayo. Linda never hesitated to lend her voice to the nation’s most pressing conversations. In her absence, we are left so much poorer.
