The amount of hate flooding Twitter right now is truly horrible and I just wanted to respond to some of the same comments being made. “Laufey songs all sound the same.” Yeah, I hate when I mix up “From the Start” with “Sabotage.” Just be honest and admit that you’ve never really taken the time to actually listen to her music or know more than 2 songs of hers. “All Laufey sings about is boys and breakups.” It’s funny how she also sings about friendships, loss, the high standards placed on women, and the insecurities we face, but somehow that’s never mentioned. “Laufey’s ruining jazz.” Everyone has tried to put Laufey into a box of what her music is, but that’s not her. Yes, her music is heavily influenced by jazz—but also pop, classical, rap, and even country. Laufey herself has said she doesn’t want to be labeled into one genre, because it creates a stigma people hold onto. She’s also never claimed to be “saving jazz” either, but let’s not pretend she hasn’t made an impact—more younger audiences are being introduced to it BECAUSE OF HER. And she’s constantly uplifting other jazz and classical musicians in interviews, through her posts, and even on stage, giving them the credit they deserve! If Laufey’s music isn’t for you, then that’s fine don’t listen but to go online and bash someone who has done literally nothing but uplift the music community just because YOU don’t like it, is honestly embarrassing.
