We are witnessing a betrayal of India’s farmers in the name of a US trade deal. I want to ask the Prime Minister some simple questions: 1.What does importing DDG really mean? Does it mean Indian cattle will be fed distillers grain derived from GM American corn? Won’t that effectively integrate our dairy chain with the US agricultural system? 2.If we allow imports of GM soya oil, what happens to our soya farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and across the country? How will they survive another price shock? 3.When you say “additional products,” what does that include? Does it signal pressure to open up pulses and other sensitive crops to US imports over time? 4.What does removing “non-trade barriers” mean? Will India be pushed to dilute its stand on GM crops, weaken procurement, or undermine MSP and bonuses in the future? 5.Once this door opens, how do we prevent it from widening every year? Will there be safeguards, or will more crops steadily be put on the table in each negotiation round? Farmers deserve clarity. This is not just about today. It is about whether we are giving another country a long-term grip on India’s agricultural system. #FarmersFirst 🇮🇳

Today, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi asked Prime Minister Modi five pointed questions about how farmers may be affected by the Indo-US trade deal. As usual, the Prime Minister did not respond directly. Some in the BJP even suggest he is above being questioned. Meanwhile, 6 Union ministers responded to Rahul. DDG import करने का वास्तव में क्या मतलब है? क्या इसका मतलब यह है कि भारतीय मवेशियों को GM अमेरिकी मक्का से बने distillers grain खिलाए जाएंगे? क्या इससे हमारे दूध उत्पाद प्रभावी रूप से अमेरिकी कृषि उद्योग पर निर्भर नहीं हो जाएंगे? 2. अगर हम GM सोया तेल के आयात की अनुमति देते हैं, तो मध्य प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र, राजस्थान और देशभर के हमारे सोया किसानों का क्या होगा? वे एक और कीमतों का झटका कैसे झेल पाएंगे? 3. जब आप “additional products” कहते हैं, तो उसमें क्या-क्या शामिल है? क्या यह समय के साथ दाल और अन्य फसलों को अमेरिकी आयात के लिए खोलने के दबाव का संकेत है? 4. “Non-trade barriers” हटाने का क्या मतलब है? क्या भविष्य में भारत पर GM फसलों पर अपने रुख को ढीला करने, procurement को कमजोर करने या MSP और bonuses को कम करने का दबाव डाला जाएगा? 5. एक बार यह दरवाज़ा खुल गया, तो हर साल इसे और ज़्यादा खुलने से हम कैसे रोकेंगे? क्या इसकी रोकथाम होगी, या हर बार सौदे में धीरे-धीरे और भी फसलों को मेज़ पर रख दिया जाएगा? किसानों को ये सफ़ाई तो मिलनी ही चाहिए। यह सिर्फ आज की बात नहीं है। ये भविष्य की भी बात है - क्या हम किसी दूसरे देश को भारत की कृषि उद्योग पर लंबे समय की पकड़ बनाने दे रहे हैं। #FarmersFirst 🇮🇳
