I passed my thesis defence! I have a PhD now!* SO relieved, the defence went really smoothly and I didn't really feel nervous. Was mostly just excited to finish! Is such a good feeling =) (*sort of, once the paperwork is done)

I'm doing my last bits of revision for my thesis defence! (We can get asked about anything in astronomy.) You can tell which topic is my favourite...

While lots of fun, if I now close my eyes then all I can see is the movement of plankton in ethanol while I slowly turn my petri dish to hunt for pteropods. Will it ever leave me?

@_revoluzia_ NLMG was a fascinating read throughout, finished it in a day. For YF, I liked the first half, with lots of interesting questions about authorship, diversity, etc. but I lost enthusiasm for it in the second half. As for recs: Have you read "Piranesi"? Insanely good.

Books I read in 2023 thread 📚 🧵 I tried #52books in both, 2021 and 2022, but failed miserably. This year it’s been going so well so far that I feel confident enough to start a twitter thread!

@_revoluzia_ I didn't quite read as much as you but I also read "Never let me go" and "yellowface" last week so it was nice and a cool coincidence to see both pop up in your thread :) I can't believe you already managed your goal of 52, all while doing your PhD, congrats!

52/52: „Yellowface“ by R. F. Kuang Read this since I enjoyed Kuang‘s last novel, Babel, quite a lot. The story started out really strong and captivating but then lost itself in meta commentary about the book industry and felt a bit repetitive.

Thanks to everyone who came to my #EGU23 talk yesterday on in situ carbonate mineral dissolution measurements and how those compare to dissolution in Earth System Models. I enjoyed all questions and comments afterwards and please get in touch if you have anything else!

We have reached a state of boredom/desperation where I ask random people if they are traveling to Vienna and if yes, what exactly they are doing there. So surprising that sometimes the answer isn't #EGU23 and apparently some people just go there for holiday?? #train2egu

Writing the limitations section of my thesis and phew, fun times! "This was bad, that was terrible, this thing probably doesn't really investigate what we wanted to investigate and that thing over there also didn't really fly..."

@_revoluzia_ Wow, I wish I had your confidence at that point. I was dreaming about studying in the US but was convinced that even if I got in I wouldn't be offered enough financial aid so I didn't end up applying.

Exactly 10 years ago today I was rejected from MIT 🎉🎉🎉 Kind of happy my 16-year-old self had absolutely 0 imposter syndrome and thought she could wing getting into MIT. I didn’t even study for the SAT cause I thought I was so smart. Happy pi day!
