It’s Winter Carnival season in Winnipeg South Centre! Great time this afternoon with constituents at the Whyte Ridge Community Centre. It was a great turnout and showcased the diversity and spirit of our riding beautifully. #WinterCarnival

It was nice to spend time with congregants at Shaarey Zedek this morning for celebration, reflection, and common purpose. It has been a difficult week for them and the broader community following several antisemitic attacks. Thank you to all of those from various faith groups who attended as well, and the ongoing leadership of community members committed to peace and inclusivity.

Today is the 6th anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752, a tragedy that claimed 176 lives, including 8 members from Winnipeg’s Iranian community. My thoughts today are with the victims’ families and loved ones, who continue to bear the weight of this loss.  The pain of the tragedy will never go away. I am very proud that the only permanent memorial to the victims of Flight PS752 in the world is located in my riding of Winnipeg South Centre. The site offers a place for reflection, remembrance, and resistance.

My statement on recent targeted hate events in Winnipeg.

Yet again, antisemitic graffiti in an act of hate targeted directly at Winnipeg’s Jewish community occurred this weekend. Large swastikas plastered on the front doors of my childhood synagogue, located in my riding, serve as yet another reminder of our need to fight antisemitism through education, judicial reform, and a collective attitude that not only recognizes the depths of the issue but rejects it loudly and with purpose - and in particular, from those outside of the Jewish community. It needs allies and the time for that is now.

Merry Christmas Winnipeg South Centre!

I always value time spent with Scott Oake. His vision, compassion, and tenacity save lives everyday at the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre. Last night, I was really grateful to join Scott, staff, and the most recent graduates of the recovery program who showed great courage and wisdom as they begin an important new chapter of their lives and sobriety. As Scott said, what better Christmas present than for loved ones to return home to their families happy and healthy. It is always a pleasure to spend time with members of Winnipeg’s Iranian community. Last night was a gathering to celebrate Yalda - which marks the winter solstice. Wishing everyone in the community a Happy Yalda and New Year ahead.

Congratulations to the Winnipeg Section of the National Council of Jewish Women of Canada on their 100th anniversary! Since 1925, the council has embodied the Jewish principle of tikkun olam, or repairing the world, through education, service and social action. The council’s work continues to inspire hope in my community of Winnipeg South Centre and beyond.

The holiday spirit was on full display at the Lord Roberts Community Centre Breakfast with Santa earlier this week! In addition to enjoying a wonderful breakfast with Santa, I was proud to recognize Jason Davis with a Canadian flag and certificate in celebration of his becoming a Canadian citizen! He’s been a tremendous driver of community spirit and event planning for many years and we’re thrilled to officially welcome him to the Canadian family! #Santa #HolidaySpirit

Yesterday I joined colleagues in announcing a total of $6.6 million in joint funding to help establish the Innovation Garage at RRC Polytech, in partnership with the Vehicle Technology Centre, the Province of Manitoba, and private-sector partners. The funding will create more opportunities for students, researchers, and businesses to adopt new technologies, strengthen workforce skills, and catalyze Made-In-Canada innovation, in Winnipeg South Centre and beyond! #Winnipeg #Manitoba #BuildCanadaStrong

I wanted to share the remarks I gave earlier this evening as we celebrate the first night of Hanukkah while mourning the loss of innocent life in Australia. Light over darkness. #Hanukkah

It’s becoming harder to even find the words. Sending my love to Jews in Australia, Winnipeg South Centre, and around the country. May the blessings of being around loved ones for the first night of Hanukkah this evening help bring some measure of joy and comfort in the shadows of this awful attack.

Today marks 3 years since my Dad died. Here is the statement I gave in his honour earlier this week in the House of Commons.

As the House gets set to rise for the holidays, I took a moment at the end of our Industry Committee meeting yesterday to thank members of all Parties, political staff, our analysts and clerk, as well as the Parliamentary administration for their service and contributions to Canada and our democracy.
