With the extreme heat of May/June bringing on the worst of depressive symptoms (every year for the past 2-3 years), I really waiver between saying something or just quietly listening to others here. Often I find myself numb - I don't have much to say, or worse, articulating my thoughts into words is just too much effort. So, here I am with a 2-month-old pic to remind myself - well, that too is me.

For years now, success in #UPSC too increasingly came to be associated with mastering patterns, notes, elimination techniques, test-series reflexes and institutional coaching cultures. An entire ecosystem around predictability,, around the belief that every uncertainty could eventually be decoded into a method. Perhaps that is why the anxiety around this year’s paper feels deeper than the usual post-exam reaction. It is not merely that the paper was difficult, it is that it unsettled a deeply entrenched expectation, that intelligence can always be systematised, coached and cracked through formula. And beneath all the humour and commentary around coaching institutes lies a far more fundamental question: What exactly do we recognise today as intelligence, preparedness, and eligibility for induction into the administrative machinery of the country?
