It becomes about suspicion. Control. Policing bodies. Public humiliation. Fear of difference. UK crime statistics do not show a pattern of trans women sexually assaulting women in public bathrooms. There is no recognised trend in police data. No government report. No policy dataset. Claims used to justify panic rely on anecdotes, misreported cases, or deliberate misclassification, not evidence. Nothing these campaigns push improves safety. What they actually expand is who gets questioned, challenged, and excluded in public spaces. Tall women. Disabled women. Masculine women. Women who do not perform femininity correctly. Ordinary women going about their lives. Trans people are not the risk factor here. Bigotry is. The danger is not who exists. The danger is encouraging the public to decide who belongs based on appearance and prejudice. That logic never stays contained. It spreads. It escalates. It harms the wrong people. This was never about protecting women. It was about legitimising hostility and calling it concern. Once you see that, the story collapses.
