Tarkowski is everything I want our centre halves to be....a hard hitting, no nonsense bully. Good old fashioned centre half. #avfc

@danielhavfc The thing is, up until 10 games or so we were both. A careful balance between the two. Pragmatic, but good spells of attacking to compliment it. Right now, we aren't competing, we're not doing either. So I can't really answer that question. 2 wins in 10 tells you that

Honest question would you rather be competing for UCL football by being pragmatic or entertaining like Bournemouth but no Europe?

@DavidRHall87 I spend most of our matches looking at my phone. Never been so bored of watching us. Not just the form but the way Emery wants us to play. So little entertainment its embarrassing.

@BruceRioch4 The last 10 games or so. We've scored 1 goal or less in our last 9 matches 🤷🏻♂️

Nine games across all comps now since we scored more than one goal in a game. Last time vs RB Salzburg on January 29. Lack of creativity, ideas and quality in the final third has been/is the most concerning & frustrating aspect for me. No sign of consistent answers either.

It’s such a weird feeling when we have an unreal manager, our best in the last 20 years. But his style of football is just the polar opposite of what I enjoy watching in football, no pace, no width, prefers older players. Such a weird feeling

Unai Emery this afternoon named Aston Villa's oldest starting lineup (29 years, 69 days on average) for a Premier League game since February 2012, when they faced Manchester City (29y 116d). #AVFC

Been critical of our approach & passiveness on numerous occasions, but also painfully clear that there are a number of players in this squad now who aren't at the standard needed to keep progressing. Frustratingly, they continue to play through blind faith/necessity.

@gazlambert @StanCollymore I think we'll be lucky to finish there! Where is our next win coming from? I dont see it

FT 3-1
No complaints, attacking fortune favours the brave and United were braver when attacking so they got what their intent deserved, chances and goals. Fantastic job Carrick has done to galvanise a group.
Villa's malaise is easily identifiable.
1. If players are given licence to attack high up the pitch, great. But their nativity in either not tracking back or arms in the air is gross naivety and grating. Solution? Foul the opponent within 5 seconds of losing it. If Pep and Arteta can do it, we can.
2. Tempo. Said it last week and the week before. Slow slow slow is fine to build a season, punctuated by quick bursts. 50% slow, 50% bursts. Now? 90% slow, 10% bursts. It has to change.
If this continues Villa will be reeled in not by Liverpool or Chelsea, but by Newcastle.
It's a fight now for almost every team in the division and those that rise to it will acheive aims, those who don't, fall away. Villa "look" as though they're lacking fight.
These players have been superb for 2 or 3 seasons, playing way above expected levels but now is the time to ditch the naivety, raise the pace of games ( why did we do it when United scored? Why then?) and start to be a nasty, dark arts, win at all costs team. Others do.
Too nice. Too passive.

Unai Emery is a top top manager but its not his tactics for Villa (#avfc) that are his undoing, its his LOYALTY to those who've persistently failed to meet his standards this season that are becoming his undoing.

@_Symmo Same shite every week, ive never been so bored watching us play. Seen more bite in a bursing home than our front line
English

@benjledger Yep. He can blame injuries all he wants, but when you start 3/4 players bang out of form, it’s never gonna work. Playing 1 isn’t the worst, but a collection of attacking players is appalling.
