TV Star Siyabonga Shibe Robbed After Alleged Drink-Spiking at Bryanston Restaurant Actor Siyabonga Shibe’s relaxed evening out turned into a nightmare when he and a friend allegedly had their drinks spiked at a restaurant in Bryanston, leading to the theft of their phones and a laptop worth around R37,000, according to Sunday Times. The 48-year-old star, best known for his roles in Uzalo, Scandal!, and Rockville, opened a theft case with police after the incident. Three women in their mid-30s, believed to be fans, approached the pair for photographs and were then invited to join their table. According to Shibe, the women had initially been seated at a nearby table before moving over. The group socialised and drank beer together. At one point, Shibe briefly left his drink and his man-bag (containing his valuables) with the women while he visited the bathroom. Shortly afterwards, both men began feeling extremely drowsy. They made their way to their car, where they fell asleep. When they woke up, their phones and laptop were missing. Shibe believes the women or people working with them tampered with their drinks and stole the items, possibly as part of an organised syndicate. “I left my drinks and bag with them,” Shibe told the Sunday Times. He noted that the group had not exchanged personal contact details. One of the women was wearing a distinctive floral dress. Police spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that a theft case was opened on 20 April. No arrests have been made, and investigations are continuing. The incident comes as police have repeatedly warned about rising drink-spiking syndicates that use women to befriend victims in restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues before drugging and robbing them. Shibe urged South Africans to be more vigilant. “We should have taken all our things with us... nowadays it seems that’s the way things must be done, because you can’t trust anyone.” He also opened the case to help prevent the stolen devices from being misused.
