With the state of this country. As in crime. I may genuinely tool up to protect my family doing everyday things. I’m not going overseas to fight a war to then just about make it back to get killed en route to the shops.

On this day 18yrs ago I woke up knowing something wasn’t right. My own voice told me it was game over. Yup I was scared, faced my fear of being killed because I had a job to do. Can’t call myself a bootneck and bail out when it’s time to work. Fast forward a few hours I’m lying on the floor in blood with limbs missing. Initially I wanted to die, mainly due to pain, then when back in the uk mainly because I didn’t know what the future held for me. Turns out that 18yrs later, today. I woke up with family, both my sons giving me a kiss telling me to get up as they have football today. Ok cool. I’m absolutely fine when I think about it. 🫡

It’ll be 18yrs tomorrow since getting seriously injured in Afghanistan as a young Royal Marines Commando. Happy to fight for my country where me and my parents were born, raised. No regrets. I’m British. However, fast forward 18yrs and you have people trying to make others believe I should have no say in this country because my skin is dark. Some of these voices are actually trying to get into a position of power. I’ll never be made, or make my kids believe we ain’t good enough. 🫡

All I keep seeing is that John needs to make a public apology. An apology implies an accident. Something chosen. Something that could have been avoided or amended next time. That is not how tics work. With Tourette’s, there is no pause button. No filter. No second chance to stop it leaving your mouth. Once you understand that a person has a neurological condition that causes involuntary vocal tics, any offence perceived from that neurological misfire is not the responsibility of the disabled person. This is not about “using” anyone as an example to educate. This was not theoretical. This is the real world daily experience of people living with Tourette’s. The constant fear that the most offensive word possible will come out at the worst possible moment. The anxiety. The shame. The risk. The very real danger that follows when people misunderstand it. This happened. There is no villain here. John does not need to apologise for who he is. Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo do not need to apologise for anything either. As Dottie said in the film and in real life: “You never need to apologise for anything you can’t help.” John did issue a statement. It was dignified. He did not have to do that.
