🇮🇩 Indonesia’s forest loss surged 66% in 2025, the highest in eight years. Around 434,000 hectares were cleared, much of it driven by President Prabowo’s push for food and energy self-sufficiency. Nearly half of the land cleared was natural forest, including peatlands, turned into “food reserve forests” for rice and bioenergy. Borneo took the hardest hit, followed by Sumatra and Papua.
