So I saw the spoilers for Maya World vs. Athena on AEW Collision. Before I lose my mind, I'm going to hold off on reacting and wait until I actually watch the match on Saturday. I want to see how everything plays out and get a better sense of the direction Tony Khan is trying to take this story. Because right now, I genuinely don't understand how you fumble Athena vs. Mercedes Moné at Forbidden Door. That's clearly the money match to do here. Nothing against Maya World. I understand she's received a lot of sympathy and support after the tragic loss of her brother, and rightfully so. But unless the plan is for Maya to win the tournament and then go on to defeat Thekla for the Women's World Championship, I'm not convinced this was the best decision. That said, I'll watch the match first and come back with a more informed opinion afterward. Ultimately, in the grand scheme of things, it probably doesn't change much. I still have Mercedes Moné winning the tournament and going on to defeat Thekla for the Women's World Championship at AEW All In: Wembley.
