I wish nothing more than to no longer use Twitter but I need it for marketing and hiring and networking and until that changes, I almost feel beholden to it
Well, this is sad. Twitter literally changed my life—a single tweet led to my job at IDEO (thanks forever @simonking)
There's nowhere else to go, so Chicagoans, let's get coffee—address is first @ domain. Everyone else: it's been fun! See you around. 👋
If we don't want the next chapter to be written by VCs looking for 100X returns at any cost, we need compassionate, human-centered systems thinkers to collaborate and build something compelling.
That's why I'm proud to announce… jkjkjk. lmao can you imagine? No thanks 5/5
What did work about Twitter was thrilling feeling of "access" to people who felt inaccessible before. The serendipity of it. The lols. Finding YOUR people. The feeling of getting smarter from secondhand hot takes, of having your mind unexpectedly blown. 4/5
We shouldn't assume social media in its current form will last forever. There were things before it (Usenet, forums); there will be something after it.
We need a bigger imagination about that next thing, so we're designing it with intention and responsibility. 1/5
@craightonberman Yes! I just feel like, we rebuilt the city, we reversed the river, we made subways… We can definitely dig up a few streets and make some canals.
@craightonberman I agree 100% on all points… Want to join my campaign to turn Chicago into a canal city? The project motto is "It's expensive but worth it."
@craightonberman Yeah… on the one hand, more people riding bikes could put pressure on city governments. On the other hand, you could give away the world's sexiest e-bike for free and most people would still drive
@craightonberman I don't know, I've seen plenty of flashy designs for urban mobility infrastructure. What's missing is literally any politician in the country who will put one solitary dollar toward making it happen
@ryantomorrow A few families at my daughter's school use them for drop-off—there's the Yuba, the Urban Arrow (dope), the Veloe, and maybe some others. They often get these cool bench/baskets in the back to carry multiple kids.
@ryantomorrow They do exist, they're just expensive… Combine a lower price point (ie the Lightning of cargo e-bikes) with your brand name, and you could own 90% of that market. Go for it!
@marcoarment My "Unplayed" list in Overcast is full of played episodes—just curious, is there an intentional delay before a played episode disappears from the Unplayed tab/list?
Instagram is a fascinating case study of what happens when you let KPIs/metrics become your entire strategy. You can't extract "engagement" out of users forever.
@rosamund Haha okay I see it now. I'm interested in any updates, because I already jumped tracks on this flowchart once, and I'm prepared to jump again
