Lemme tell you what’s gonna happen Red states will keep adding power and building data centers Blue states will succumb to idiocy and turn off data centers (they mostly weren’t building them in the first place bc their grids don’t work bc of failed green transitions) Red states will keep bringing in investment and tax revenue Blue states will keep spending insane amounts on massive carefare programs (Medicaid based fake jobs programs) Blue states will default Red states will be forced to bail them out

@jesuismoobin @HedgeDirty 100% agreed. Some kind of boot camp the summer after high school graduation would go a long way for pride, social skills, and learning.

@HedgeDirty To my mind, the best argument for national service is social. The U.S. social body is so stratified that it barely mixes anymore. A little forced interaction might not be the worst thing.

@SalimForVA @JasonMiyaresVA I can’t believe someone named Saddam is a politician in America. The country opened its arms to give you a chance and you repaid it by embracing anti-American economic principles and trying to limit an amendment from the Bill of Rights. Just craziness.

@traestephens I thought a military summer boot camp for all recent high school graduates also would be a good bonding and learning experience. No one is forced into full-time service but might expose people into joining as well. Great time to bond with others and learn valuable skills.

I’ve been arguing for over a decade that mandatory civil service would make America stronger. The typical response was that it would just be an obstacle between people and their goals…or that it’s uNConStITutioNaL and that we’d rather have violent tribalwarfare between the purple hair baristas and the incels. Now that widespread job loss driven by AI looms, the idea has become a lot more palatable. Go check out the argument @PirateWires. Come at me, bro.

The job market for college grads is bleak, radicalizing America’s underemployed youth. The solution? Anduril cofounder @traestephens proposes a mandatory national service — a new labor force to dig roads, build trails, and better our republic. 👇 piratewires.com/p/ai-is-breaki…

@HistoryBoomer I mean removing 12 millions people would drastically lower housing prices and reduce SNAP spending. I just want progressives to tell me whether we need illegals to fill jobs or we need to slow down AI because it will take our jobs. Which is it?

Today, we’re announcing that we’ve raised $115 million in funding, including a $100M Series A led by @kleinerperkins. America has lost the ability to build, and we’re here to restore it. My co-founder, @NoahMcGuinn, and I left our jobs at @SpaceX , where we worked on programs including Starship, Starshield, and @Starlink, to build a company that will solve construction’s greatest challenges. Infrastructure is the foundation of civilization, and construction is the precursor to innovation. If America wants to build a brighter future for the next generation, we have to make it faster, cheaper, and safer to build. That’s where @TerraFirma_Inc comes in. We’re a new type of company, a robotic construction company that builds the full technology stack needed to deliver an order-of-magnitude improvement in one of the world’s oldest, largest, most important, but least efficient industries. We are building technology that expands what’s possible in construction on Earth, and then we'll use that same technology to build megastructures and colonies on the Moon and Mars. We’ve made tremendous progress over the past year, growing the company more than 10x in the last 12 months. We are performing projects across the world. By the end of October 2026, we are on track to operate 3 of the top 3 largest robotic construction fleets in the world, each on a different continent, bringing unprecedented speed, scale, and efficiency to some of the world’s most complex critical infrastructure projects. This funding will allow us to step on the gas and scale our manufacturing, software, operations, and construction deployments, including work on massive commercial and government contracts. We’re building the future of construction right here in Austin, Texas, and scaling it globally. If you want to be part of the team changing the world, now and on Mars, join us. Our Series A was led by Kleiner Perkins, with participation from Bain Capital Ventures, Glade Brook Capital Partners, BANNER VC, Saga Ventures, Trust Ventures, Definition, PEAK6, Magnetar Capital, and Ravelin Capital. Huge thanks to all of our angel investors, friends, and family who have helped and supported us throughout this journey. Apply here: jobs.ashbyhq.com/TerraFirma-Inc…

@ReubenR80027912 ICE should be doing a lot less work. Instead: De-bank. Put a large tax/fee on remittances. Block federal welfare funds and crack down on immigrant welfare fraud. Criminally prosecute large illegal alien employers. Make it difficult to be an illegal alien, in other words.

Rs are uniquely poorly situated to do immigration action; they can’t go after ANY part of rural state Ag workforce (big R donors/voters) and to try and go after urban immigrants is DOA b/c sanctuary cities won’t work w/ ICE Even Fed agency moves are surprisingly muted (1/3)
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

Immigration is Trump’s top issue, was Joe Biden’s biggest political vulnerability, and it’s the number one motivator of the MAGA movement. Interestingly they have no legislation whatsoever in the works on this. slowboring.com/p/trump-hasnt-…
