@GachaSmack Yeah... exactly. Without context, my man looks COMPLETELY cooked. Yet, who knows about how they are WITH context. Still, we shouldn't always be getting to that point where the story context saves the design.

I think all the hate for Dragon Quest XII's Main Protag design is a knee jerk reaction and over the top but, I don't disagree that it's not great. I think the negative feedback can cause the dev's to cook even harder with his design which is a good thing. I will say, there's a number of protag's that I thought looked horrible upon first glance and then they ended up growing on me tremendously. Dmitri from fire emblem looked mid af before the time skip and story development combined. Hell in fact, Zidane was god awful at a glance and now til this day, he's still one of my favorite protag's of all time. Moral of the story: Sometimes the story playthrough will change your entire outlook on a character design but without that context, it just looks ass lol.

I don’t know who needs this right now, but hey it’s not too late and you still have time. Life can happen and it sucks, it’ll bring you so much joy and still kick your ass at times. Despite that, you’ll get to where you need to be. If you have something you love and you’re passionate about please feed that side of yourself more. Have people thought about making Steve lose in the event of a timeout? (This might make him not top 1 anymore though). I do think the only way Steve becomes more balanced is through legalizing more stages: Yoshi-type stages, Lylat and Castle (but he's still prob best character).
