“6-9” Montell Shelton (Cosumnes River) is another big man that should be getting attention. The sophomore has good touch, good hands and can play with his back to the basket and should be on on radars of schools across the nation.

The NAACP issued a travel advisory for Florida, saying that under Gov. Ron DeSantis the state has become “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals.” It urged travelers to be aware of the state’s politics. nyti.ms/3Iw5eQc

Just spoke with high level D2 coach and he told me their league don’t really recruit HS kids. For HS & Prep players in this climate, don’t sit on offers for too long. These high level coaches are trying to win. Take the offer as an honor but don’t play around with it.

Well, I screwed up. I put out a tweet last night that was incorrect. Compliance people that exploded my DMs, you were correct. So here are the rules. EVERYONE IN JUCO NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THIS and you’re not going to like it. JUCO transfers are screwed. So as it stands today, if you went to a 4 year, transferred to a JUCO, went to another 4 year, you DO NOT get the one time transfer exception. It doesn’t matter if your scholarship isn’t renewed, it doesn’t matter if there was a coaching change….you CANNOT transfer to another 4 year NCAA institution and be immediately eligible. There are no waivers available to you outside of some limited health and well being or hardship waivers. So if your coach cuts you, you’re done unless someone is willing to redshirt you somewhere or you’ve graduated. (Grad transfer waiver still exists….for now). In addition to this travesty, starting next year, 4 year D1s receiving a transfer must guarantee multi year scholarships for that student. So if a coach runs them off, the school can still be on the hook for the degree if the athlete just decides to be a normal student…..HOWEVER…..this is not offered to JUCO transfers. So if you’re a 4-2-4, you are not afforded this multi year scholarship automatically. It can be offered (and you should be asking for it) but they don’t HAVE to. A committee of ADs and D1 coaches made these rules. They should be ashamed of themselves. We have now put the future of a kid and whether they can continue their education in the hands of a BASKETBALL COACH. This is an absolute abomination of the mission of college athletics. Obviously every situation can have some nuance and caveats to it and you absolutely need to confirm your own situation with the compliance office, but if you think there is an easy way to be a 4-2-4-4 transfer, there absolutely is not and more than likely it’s impossible without graduating. (The grad transfer waiver still exists) JUCO kids and coaches, you now need to start thinking 2 years ahead on these decisions because coaches can leave or cut you without any consequences.
