Hiring Scala engineers: security (PKI, identity), big data, services/tooling. We use things like cats, fs2, etc. Locations include SF, NYC, Austin, Vancouver, Seattle. Let's talk!

@mikiebarb I became a subscriber because I was listening to the podcast and generally want to pay for what I get. But I do not want the app. I want to listen using open standards like RSS. NPR does that this well. Please don’t force proprietary apps on us.

As we explained on today, the show will remain free for those who just want to listen to the latest episode (or two two before it). But, yes, we very much want people to subscribe to the NYT overall and NYT audio!

If you’re at @JupyterCon and want to discuss anything Scala, find me there or send me a DM. A lot of things changed recently in the Scala tooling ecosystem, and so will Almond! almond.sh

1/18 Je me rends compte de l'ironie de la situation: un prisonnier politique russe s'adresse aux électeurs français. Mais techniquement, je suis en prison à cause d’une plainte déposée par une entreprise française.

1/16A Russian political prisoner addressing the voters of France is quite ironic. But technically, I'm in jail due to a criminal complaint by a French company; I studied 🇫🇷 at university and wear a scarf whenever I come to Paris. France is close to my heart, so I'll give it a try

While I tend not share personal information on twitter, I wanted to take a moment to remember my daughter, Ellie, who passed away this Tuesday morning at 1:30 am. devlinfuneralhome.com/obituaries/eli… She was a quiet girl, who lived between moments. She taught me so much.

I find it mind-blowing how much OSS code is used internally in big corps without attribution. It would make a difference for maintainers to know who their users are and how their code is used. And it even more if they received explicit support/funding... but that battle is lost.

After ~7 years, and 3 great teams and roles including management, today was my last day at Apple. I worked with incredible people, many of them became my friends. I learned a lot and grew a lot. So naturally I am sad, but also very excited with what comes next.

Here’s a thread of what I think various Sopranos characters’ vaccination statuses would be during Covid19.

@arosien I used to enjoyed those Ariane 5 launches so much back when my dad worked at the Space Center in Kourou. Incredible experience!

@jimofl @SusanPotter Indeed, people underestimate what a gift it is to be able to avoid it. As they say, I don't mind npm as long as I don't have to use it 🤔

@jdegoes Using the popularity argument just so that the technical drawbacks can be ignored is intellectually dishonest.

Functional programmers rightly criticize Spring, for a lack of algebraic structure, type safety, and compositionality. But to see the drawbacks without understanding why Spring so popular is to miss the forest for the trees. Technologies are not all good nor all bad, but a mix.
