Stadium REBUILD or stadium REMODEL? Let’s discuss ❤️💙💚 These opinions do not speak for the whole GVS. 🤜🤛 Let’s start by looking at some facts. San Diego State just built Snapdragon Stadium for $310M. We went down there a few years ago, it’s a VERY nice stadium! JMO, I think it SEVERELY lacks character.. There’s nothing that truly stands out or sets that stadium apart from any stadium in the country. It’s a “tract home”! I personally don’t like “layered stadiums” where the fans are broken up into about 10-12 rows of seating per section.. How is that intimidating or promotes any sort of home field environment? (See pictures).. Let’s shift to the REMODELING side of this discussion. First, let’s think about what Valley Children’s Stadium needs? (Feel free to give your ideas). Most people say… bathrooms! I did some quick research on public restrooms & a fairly high end remodel could cost around $300k per restroom. I’m trying to think of how many restrooms we have currently in the whole stadium?! If they built 15 brand new restrooms for the stadium that’s $4.5M. Let’s move on… Most people say we need an updated video board, I absolutely agree! The blue team up north just spent $3M on their video board. Let’s top that! Let’s say we spend $5M. Our remodel is at $9.5M Most people believe we need a new press box, I totally agree. I think our press box is the most outdated thing about our stadium. After doing a bit of research, a VERY nice press box would cost around $45M give or take. Our rebuild is at $54.5M I personally LOVE the overhang look Autzen Stadium has. Husky Stadium in Seattle has it aswell, but more for the rain, so it’s slightly too big for our needs. The overhang keeps the sun off the west side stands as much as possible! (See picture). It also keeps the crowd noise in the stadium, which allows for a more ELECTRIC environment! Honestly not sure what this would cost! Let’s throw a number out, $7.5M? Our rebuild is at $62M. We could honestly stop there & VCS has major upgrades! … but we’re no quitters! Let’s add 15,000 seats to the north endzone! IMO this is what we should & shouldn’t do! Shouldn’t do- Open the area up to put a lounge, eating area with tables & chairs. If you wanna eat a hotdog on a bench go to Costco! We’re trying to build the most intimidating college football environment on the west coast! We already have the Grey Wave in the red seats! All due respect! 🤜🤛 Should do- Demolishing the stairs on the north side & build tunnels for easy access to the field viewing area from the concourse. “Close off” the north side part of the stadium & extend seating up & over what use to be that open area above the north stairs. The visual of Nebraska’s endzone seating always comes to mind (pictured). If we could blend that look into the bowl structure of our stadium, that would look AMAZING! What would it cost? I really don’t know! Let’s say they gave it all the bells/whistles… $50M … Our rebuild is at $112M with a 57,000 seat capacity. Based on my amateur number crunching skills! We saved $198M by REMODELING over REBUILDING. I’ve been all over the country, I think people take what we have for granted! VCS has so much character! It is an absolute gem of a stadium! 💎.. nothing cookie cutter about it! The shiny object is not always the best result! The grass is not always greener… I want to throw my vote to a remodel over a rebuild. @KlassyDogs Go ‘DOGS!!! ❤️💙💚
