This is the story of the trailblazing Dini Petty. Petty was born on Jan. 15, 1945 and at 22, she became the first female traffic reporter in the world to pilot her own helicopter. Wearing a trademark pink jumpsuit, she clocked 5,000 hours as a pilot-in-command while giving traffic reports for CKEY. Later in life, she moved to CityTV Toronto and became a reporter and anchor. She also hosted the show Sweet City Woman and then CityLine. In 1989, she moved to CFTO and hosted The Dini Petty Show until 1999. Her show won a Can-Pro Award in 1997. In the 2000s, she hosted Weekends with Dini Petty, a radio show that focused on health and wellness. She also wrote a children's book, The Queen, The Bear and the Bumblebee. In 2014, the book was staged at the Banff Centre. If you enjoy my Canadian history content, you can support my work with a donation at buymeacoffee.com/craigU

2024 TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE — The most stunning natural phenomenon on Earth, a total solar eclipse, swept across North America today. Here’s the entire sequence as seen from Presque Isle, Maine, under crystal clear skies.

On this day in 1976, Wilder Penfield died. Born in 1891, he expanded the knowledge of brain surgery and mapped the functions of many parts of the brain. His Heritage Minute ("I smell burnt toast") is one of the most famous ever made.

Bridge design for vessel collision. A🧵 The main span of the Francois Scott Key Bridge is 1300 ft. It also has 185 ft of clearance, making this a massive bridge. This type of bridge is considered complex. Baltimore is in for a long haul before replacement. Here is why. 1/x

Toronto Pearson is saddened to hear of the passing of American sculptor Richard Serra, a legendary artist who primarily worked with steel and whose piece “Tilted Spheres” remains one of Toronto Pearson's most celebrated installations. You simply can't miss it in the international departures area of terminal 1. It was installed in 2004 and, fun fact, “Tilted Spheres” had to be completed before the terminal roof and walls of the terminal could be installed. Its four huge steel fins are memorable to walk through because of their echo effect. The piece also gained international attention when the Museum of Modern Art featured photos of the work in its exhibition catalogue in 2007. RIP Mr. Serra, and thank you for your everlasting contribution to Toronto Pearson. torontopearson.com/en/while-you-a…

A little-known fact about the 407 is that it does actually have rules. One of which is that you can't weave through traffic going 180 km/h. This G2 driver's bill after stunt driving will be a lot more expensive than the tolls to use this highway. #YRP #YorkRegion #RoadToSafety
