@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS belt. So I'm gonna take that as you don't understand statistics, you don't understand the original claims, and you're mad that I won't change the subject.
English

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS I was agreeing with and elaborating on Brad's initial point. You have been exasperated with me this whole time for a completely unrelated reason. I asked if you understand statistics, probability, and trends. You didn't answer, but kept hammering me for "not caring about the rust

New Study:
Married men are at least 28% more likely to be continuously employed, compared to never-married men, in their prime earning years (27-49).

Excited to share this @penn_state release on my new @SociusJournal paper with Adrianne Frech, @JaneLankes, and @AdrienneOhler. Looking at men's employment from age 27-49, we find only 41% of men work steadily and continuously during this age span. 1/ psu.edu/news/research/…

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS so far avoided a complete economic turndown (something which every generation has experienced since the dawn of capitalism).
English

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS The unemployment rate is near historic lows, trade and innovation continue to lower the cost and/or increases the quality of most consumer goods, remote work options abound, and we have
English

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS I don't know why you think encouraging people to grow in character doesn't help make the world a better place. I believe it helps more than any economic policy.
English

@bethanylanell @BradWilcoxIFS My reply is the same
Reality matters
Luck is a thing
Economics drives uncertainty and instability
Feel good nonsense is an excuse to not make the world a better place

@bethanylanell @BradWilcoxIFS Goodness Sake! These men aren’t “entitled” if they are willing to work & want a stable career before they try to start a family Let lone you ignore that economic drive unwanted celibacy which drives the problem! “Work on yourself despite reality” is just callous & cruel
English

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS Sometimes there's no one to help us but ourselves. And if we won't do that, then we have given all our agency to people who don't know or care that we exist. And telling people they should wait for others to fix their problems? That's what I would call cruel.

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS It's almost impossible to separate the idea of taking responsibility from choosing to grow in kindness or loyalty or wisdom. This is why it's called the x factor. It's difficult for anyone, and especially for economists, to get to the root of this thing that makes people grow.
English

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS In order to become mature, functioning adults (a necessary requirement for any marriage or job), each person must eventually learn to take responsibility for their lives, regardless of who is to blame.
English

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS And by "we" I mean, what society or different communities decide to value and teach the next generation to value.
English

@RealDavidDemos @BradWilcoxIFS I'm sorry for whatever has made you so cynical. But no. The x factor actually has a lot to do with personality and character. We can't do much about the former, but the latter we absolutely can.
English

@BradWilcoxIFS @RealDavidDemos So big Q is this: if x factor is not immutable, how do we increase it in young men?
English

@BradWilcoxIFS @RealDavidDemos x factor - men who have this characteristic are more likely to be stable in marriage and employment, and then both the relationship and the job strengthen the x factor.
English

@BradWilcoxIFS Is that how married men make more money than single men? Hmm
