Over 50% of the LA short-term rental (STR) market is currently non-compliant. As a result, 2,600 permanent homes have been removed from our market. This impacts everyone.

Beefed-up enforcement is a “simple fix for the city” that would “raise enormous amounts of money,” said Randy Renick, Better Neighbors LA executive director. “It’s also going to return thousands of affordable housing units to the market for long-term renters,” he said.

The Home Sharing Ordinance (HSO) was put in place to help clarify the rules: residents can share their primary homes, but they can’t turn entire apartment buildings into unregulated hotels, because it takes viable homes off the market for rent.
