@MrZachG Knowledge without thinking is just storage. You can Google a fact in 5 minutes, but real value comes from how you process, question and apply it. Thinking is the bridge between knowing and doing.

As a parent, I’m happy if you just teach my kid knowledge rather than attempting to teach her how to think. She can already think, and so can all the other kids. She needs more to think with. I hope that relieves an enormous burden and opens doors for a knowledge rich education.

@MrZachG You can have an abundance of knowledge about kindness, but putting it into action takes a whole different skill set. Knowledge is easy to access—you can Google in 5 minutes what might take 8 weeks in school. The real question is: can you live it, not just know it?

@RogersHistory And also what if I struggle to speak in a clear confident voice - should I not be there because I don’t fit the mould and fit in to a neat human box?

A school has been heavily criticised this week by parents for this new set of behaviour expectations, any thoughts?

@RogersHistory Sounds like more like a prison to me I certainly wouldn’t be doing any learning in those conditions when learning is based on feeling comfortable, built on relationships and tied in with emotions, I don’t see any of those in there. Robotic system to comply

What’s everyone’s favourite picture books for Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 to inspire writing! I’m looking at changing a few of ours and have lots of ideas but would like to collect more before narrowing it down! @_Reading_Rocks_ @MrBoothY6 @smithsmm

@Suchmo83 Handwriting and letter formation, yes. Joined up writing - NO! Pen licence handwriting expectations held my Daughter back (and hit her confidence) . She is bright and able however arthritis and hypermobility make writing a struggle. Give the girl a lap top and she is FLYING!

Had a conversation recently about handwriting, and I'm interested in getting a sense of people's views. In particular... + Do you think handwriting is important? + What questions do you have about handwriting?

@Suchmo83 Automaticity of handwriting is important but not necessarily joined and the neatness of it is not important - although it obviously has to be readable. But the joined, cursive forced in primary is not a necessity

READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. It counts for more than test scores, exam results, even socioeconomic background! It is probably the single most important thing that we can help kids to do. booktrust.org.uk/news-and-featu…

- they are the learning. Make time for it otherwise most of the learning you do is probably pointless - build the relationships, build the environment, build people. #lovewhereyouwork

All those little things you do in the classroom to promote well-being, positivity, dialogue around self and feelings, emotional literacy are the key to the learning that happens and are not a distraction from learning

How do we get EVERY SINGLE CHILD to be a reader? Do these 3 things & you'll give them a great start! 1. Read aloud to them. 2. Give them the widest possible range of books to choose from. 3. Let them choose freely and read for pleasure, and never dismiss their choices. #literacy
