@robprogressive Interesting analysis. However, I would suggest that in the timeframe, posting of letters has declined around 70%. A vast majority will be using broadband. Perhaps a comparison on that would be more appropriate.

Minimum wage was £5.00 in 2005, & a first class stamp was 32p    One hour of work got you 15 first class stamp Now in 2025, minimum wage is £12.21 & a 1st class stamp is £1.35
Now one hour of work will only get you 9 1st class stamps  That’s a 321% rise in stamps but only 142% rise in pay  If wages had kept up with the price of stamps, the minimum wage would be £16.05 an hour This is NOT just inflation, this is worse. The economy is ruined in the U.K.

This is about much more than stamps. Food, electricity, travel are all similar

The hard working people are struggling to survive because costs are soaring far quicker than wages Something needs to change, but will it?

Is this why so many people are leaving the U.K.?

The arguments are finely balanced as @dsmitheconomics highlights but both weak growth and stubborn inflation are due to govt decisions - or indecision - on tax and regulation. Unless someone breaks the orthodoxy the economy will continue to struggle. thetimes.com/business/econo…

"We will see business losses and closures." @allen_m_simpson spoke to @BBCNews about the huge impact of 76% business rates increases for our pubs. We need urgent Government action to fix this. Increase the hospitality discount to 20p or freeze rateable values at 2023 levels.

@Steven_Swinford What is wrong for the Chancellor to improve people's living standards by increasing the minimum wage?

Exclusive: Rachel Reeves is preparing to give more than a million low-paid workers a pay rise in the budget The Times has been told that the chancellor is likely to confirm a rise in the national living wage of about 4 per cent, from £12.21 to at least £12.70, in an effort to deliver on her pledge to improve living standards The government will also commit itself to extending the living wage to people between the ages of 18 and 21 as part of a commitment to ‘raise the floor’on wages However businesses have warned that she risks ‘pricing jobs out of existence’ because of the ‘compound’ effect of last year’s rise in national insurance and the minimum wage That highlight the fact that many of the key elements of Labour’s employment rights package - including day one statutory sick pay - kick in at the same time, increasing the burden on employers thetimes.com/article/c9c8fe…
