Why are cognitive biases so fascinating? As the editor @DamnjanovicKaja puts it, cognitive biases offer a window into the part of our mind that acts "as if it knows", even in a complex & uncertain world.

Müller-Lyer illusion The Müller-Lyer illusion is probably the most famous illusion. It is a size illusion that occurs when apices of V-shape fins are attached to both ends of a line segment. The line segment appears shorter when V-shapes are attached inside (left image) and longer when they are attached outside (right image). This illusion was proposed by Müller-Lyer (1889) and spawned many variants. Müller-Lyer, F. C. (1889) Optische Urteilstäuschungen. Archiv für Anatomie und Physiologie, Physiologische Abteilung, 2, 263-270.
