I was very happy to see the @statesman admonish Austin City Council for authorizing $600k to fight two Austin residents whose home was severely damaged by jaw dropping APD incompetence: austinpolitics.net/another-plea-f…

.@teainfo directs ISDs to "cancel or otherwise redirect events and activities tied" to Cesar Chavez. TEA also directed ISDs to avoid lessons on him, even though he is included in state TEKS, after NYT reporting revealed allegations of abuse. #txed tea.texas.gov/about-tea/news…

After seven years (🤯) at the @HoustonChron covering state politics, today is my last day. I’ll be joining the enterprise and investigative reporting team at the @TexasTribune on Tues. It’s bittersweet to leave a newsroom I love, but I’m so beyond excited for this next chapter!

The Big Bend border wall contracts I’ve seen so far average about $17 million a mile. The total cost of the project in Presidio County is 540x our annual county budget. We do not have a hospital and are among the poorest counties in Texas. Just some fun facts I wanted to share 💞

I stood at a primary table to choose between a Republican or Democratic ballot—not the strongest candidates, galling to say the least. As I voted, several voters asked election officials why they couldn’t vote for their preferred candidates. No one answered—so I will. @bgrumet @evan7257 @HoustonChron @statesman statesman.com/opinion/column…

Apparently @jamestalarico won with a huge turnout from young adults. Want to know why? Here is my guess: On social media, the algorithms give you more of what you consume. Talarico’s messages are positive. To the point of being “syrupy”. Voters that committed to watching his social posts, got more of not only his posts, but also other positive messages. Contrast that with historically negative messaging across past elections, and I think the contrast was striking and motivational for many. Enough to draw record numbers to a primary. It may be crazy to some, but the idea of “my feed and FYP got better the more I watched his videos” is enough to get voters excited to support and vote for him. Call it “PositivityMaxxing” 😂. But I truly believe that candidates that can give positive messages, authentically and confidently , can be part of a new successful trend. Regardless of party or office. Thoughts ?

Just before 10 p.m., three hours after polls closed, and voters are still waiting to vote at 20 Harris County polling sites, @HarrisVotes says. The Election Code is silent on this, but I think they should get two stickers!

Please read @lilykepner's story about how UT president @JimDavis_UT has declined interviews with all media in the year he's led Austin's top university. #txed
Lily Kepner@lilykepner

NEW: @JimDavis_UT has been @UTAustin president one year. He’s never agreed to an interview. The refusal to engage with media & the end of faculty senates means UT has had no way to question Davis’s decisions publicly, contrasting norms. Why it matters: statesman.com/news/education…

In Texas, we found that the flawed SAVE tool misidentified 87 citizens in 29 counties as noncitizens, placing their eligibility to vote in jeopardy.
Jen Fifield@JenAFifield

NEW: A federal tool meant to find noncitizens on voter rolls is consistently marking citizens as noncitizens, especially if they were born outside the U.S., causing chaos as election clerks try not to disenfranchise voters, @zachdespart and I found. propublica.org/article/save-v…
