As the West Asian crisis pushed Brent crude above $100 per barrel, countries across the world saw massive fuel hikes — Myanmar up to 112%, the US around 45%, and Pakistan over 50%. In comparison, India limited the increase in petrol and diesel prices to around 3%. For 76 days, India’s public-sector oil companies absorbed massive losses instead of immediately burdening citizens. The ₹3 revision announced in May was the first major increase in nearly four years.
