How was your 4th of July celebrations? In 1925, the Birmingham Eccentric reported that B'ham had it's safest fourth in many years, the only injury being a young boy who lost an eye playing with fireworks.

Holiday Weekend plans: buy some fireworks (add for Shain's Pharmacy in 1910) and then not throwing them out of a window of a moving vehicle because I don't want to be arrested (police report of some boys throwing firecrackers out a car window in 1943).

We treasure this 1959 diploma from Birmingham High because Ron Buchanan was a beloved volunteer and board member, but also because this was the last year that the school was known as Birmingham High. The next year the school was renamed Seaholm High.

It's a collections mystery! This photo appears to be a class photograph and came with another photograph that was labeled "Birmingham High School June 1949" but we cannot confirm the year for this photo. Do you recognize this photograph or anybody in it?

The engineering department always finds cool things during renovation projects! This brocken pottery lid was found during the early 2000s under Shain Park and may have gotten there when that area was a residential neighborhood before the park was constructed in 1934.

We have a lot of quilts in our collection and every single one tells a story. This quilt was made for Almeron Whitehead (1851-1926) by his grandmother Hunt (first name unknown). The pattern is called "Grandmother's garden".
