@DavidPoland They are definitely expensive. But to call it the reason theaters are dying is definitely misguided at best.

Yeah. I have to agree that $20 for a soda and a popcorn feels a bit brutal. And AMC in LA is there. I mentioned the other day that the soda machines were broken at my AMC and they sold barely cold 20oz bottles for $7. Felt like too much. But the degree of drama, especially with prices for everything, like fast food and groceries and even streaming, feels to be growing too quickly.

@Ecnerwal23 Because artists are paid as a share of in total streams, he is illegally taking money from other artists by electronically manipulating those numbers. Pretty clear cut wire fraud. It’s not the platforms he is stealing from. It’s the other artists.

@FrankYan2 That’s the one that made me audibly say “oh fuck this list.” Rylance was perfection in that role.

It’s not 🍇, it’s rape. It’s not 🌽 it’s pornography. I’m so fucking tired of your shitty Tiktoktisation of incredibly serious, adult issues. There is no reason to use algorithm get arounds here. It’s not funny, it’s not cute, and it trivialises serious and deadly issues.

@AJBecklesVO It technically can but highly unlikely it will. Although we’ve gotten International much closer, so maybe someday.

This is undoubtedly not an original thought but i’m going to say it anyway…. I think it’s REALLY weird animated movies can’t win best feature…

@AtlantisFell It tells you nothing. The nominations come from separate branches of the Academy. They are not, and have never been, an indicator of what the overall body feels. It’s apples to fucking oranges. This is such a dumb take.

Also, not to beat a deadhorse, but a movie (Sinners) getting nominated for 16 Oscars, winning Actor, Cinematography, Screen Play, and Score, but not winning Picture, Cast, and Director tells you everything you need to know.

@Hal05930090 @PanasonicDX4500 10 is a great number because it allows exposure for more films that otherwise might not get some of that without reaching the points of overwhelm.

@bhappier2 @PanasonicDX4500 Not convinced that this is true. Imagine if there were 25 best pic nominees. Most people (besides obsessive Letterboxers) would be overwhelmed and just not watch any of them. I think that’s already what happens to a large extent with just 10 noms.

My one other Oscar take is that it's time we go back to five nominees for Best Picture. It's going to leave some good movies out but like that's the point. We do not need to keep living in a world where F1 and Train Dreams are Best Picture nominees.
