I've read MANY "spiritual" books over the years Everything from the POWER OF NOW to "Letting Go" There was one book though that led to a PERMANENT shift in identity And a 80% reduction in suffering/stress/thinking In that book was an INCREDIBLY SIMPLE practice that changed everything It's the 3rd year of University I was writing my Final year Thesis on how Meditation & Mindfulness improve academic attainment By reducing the symptoms of stress, anxiety & depression I'm doing 2-4 hours of meditation a day Getting into states of absorption/bliss on command And generally having an incredible time with my 7 mates who I lived with (My then GF now Wife was also back home so I had lots of space and time to do whatever I wanted) I am determined to "wake up" The idea of "Leigh" already feels like it's hanging on by a thread I'm living most of days in PRESENCE & relative inner peace But I want to go deeper I'm reading the book "I AM THAT" by the Indian Saint Nisargadatta Maharaj It's a brilliant book that boils down to one key "practice" "Hold on to the ‘I am’ to the exclusion of everything else" I had a surge of strong determination to simply hold onto this ONE thought until something shifted And so I did For the next 3-days the only thought I allowed myself to entertain was the "I AM" Then...as we came back from the gym... My room mate - Who was ironically an extreme skeptic/material reductionist type dude... Clicked - Out of scorn - On a video on my YouTube home page: "Angels singing 800% slower" was the title I believe... "Wtf is this shit" I remember him saying... And the moment that song came on... It acted as the catalyst to trigger 3-days and many 1000s of hours of effort I instantly started crying and the sheer volume of tears is like nothing I've ever experienced before or after Literal rivers flowing from both eyes And then BOOM - Sent into "oneness with the Universe" type awakening for 15+ mins I come back 15-mins later Open my eyes 3 friends on my bed - 2 of them with tears in their eyes "What the fuck just happened?" I can barely speak Trying to explain what went down seems pointless Eventually things "boot back online" But the world looks different Something has permanently changed There's a great sense of oneness, ease & relief But instead of feeling like some cosmic chakra lord And after a couple of wild weeks where things definitely felt very "physic" It all eventually boiled down... And I felt more human than ever Things had become very simple & very quiet internally I also realized there's a tremendous amount of "cleaning up" to do on the human level Some things that were quite obvious Mostly though really subtle little attachments Since then I've followed the flow of life I spent time coaching teens with Autism & ADHD to find the confidence to re-enter the mainstream classroom Spent 8 years in Japan living in Nagasaki & Osaka Built a powerful biz serving 85+ clients with a ton of INCREDIBLE results And have become a Husband & Father Something I NEVER thought I'd ever do Now all that's really left is silent PRESENCE And an unconditional wholeness, peace & joy Of course - I have VERY human moments too But it's all an opportunity for deeper & deeper letting go Needless to say The practice of holding onto "I AM" is powerful indeed! Forever grateful to a man who I've never met But consider my primary teacher

@dhalapathi_ Wrong translation unfortunately, meditation is not mastered, it happens. It's not achieved but it's a natural consequence of the previous steps of Yoga. It's a state of flow rather than something that has to be performed.

This by default should lead to cultivating the habit of seeing/winning over every moment of discomfort/pain as a reward/duty/challenge. Must fall in love with the process of working hard to fight obstacles and win over rather than complain/blame. Such a mindset is sweet af and one has to taste it to pursue it further, cause the rewards always too high.

And btw. Shaving everyday makes the skin rough over time, there is a sense of burn on the face skin as we sweat through the day. And the more we shave, the faster the beard tends to grow making it mandatory to shave regularly. Nobody likes such things everyday. Unless it's mandatory to look presentable

Given a chance even your dad and uncle would not have shaved everyday. It's because of the nature of their jobs - govt or so in the 80s-90s they always stayed clean. Otherwise men would shave once/twice a month. It's natural for men to not feel like having a shave. Shaving is not a rosy feeling btw. It's not laziness, if you think so then go ask your dad. They shaved because they had to, so that they are respected at work but not because they were not lazy. Most men care very little about how they look or their definition of looking good is often simple, because we men don't borrow our grooming standards from the fashion industry or bollywood unlike women, where men look like women.

One can have a beard or long hair, but it has to be groomed no? I can’t forget how my dad & uncles shaved every single day, except maybe Sundays or unwell. Clothes ironed. Shoes and sandals always clean. Somewhere along the way, we started calling lack of effort choice or style.

2 years ago today I had the biggest loss of my life, I lost my dad, my biggest support & guiding force, the funniest person, the purest Rohini soul, the person who’d move mountains for me without having to ask. I’m grateful for the way I’ve grown, I think I’m making him proud <3
