Sad to learn one of my mentors, Godfather to my oldest daughter, Jamie , Dick Hall has passed. Impeccable control, on the 66,70 WS winners. Taught me so much, always the smartest man in the room. My best to Elena, and her daughters who helped raise my girls .

Barbara Partee's comments on the Pinker-LSA situation. I think Partee is pretty even-handed about the entire affair. If I were to echo the words of Chomsky, suppression of free speech is a favorite right wing pastime, not a new phenomenon. But it is not good for it to grow.

@sapinker I've posted my own response in opposition to the petition now on Medium; but I must note that there are a good number of people I know and respect among the signatories. I wish people would just argue rather than call each other names. I believe there is good faith on both sides.
