Rivian’s new R2 4695 cell delivers six times the energy of the 2170 cell used in the R1T and R1S. The pack is integrated into the vehicle’s floor, serving as both structure and battery housing to cut weight and improve efficiency. Rivian expects all 4695 cells to be produced in the U.S. starting in 2027. R2 production is still slated for the first half of 2026.

@Mikekantorski Definitely getting antsy. I have a reservation on the R2 and the Tesla Model S that was ever so slightly refreshed for 2026. If Tesla releases AI5 before the R2, then it’s Tesla. Also if the performance R2 is under 320 miles to a charge, then R2 is out.
