Galway will be without Matthew Thompson for the National Football League, while Cathal Sweeney, Tomo Culhane and Johnny Heaney have stepped away from the senior panel for 2026. @bigbar9 examines how significant the absence of these players will be for Galway this season | 🏐

If you want to know how insane the GAA under-the-counter market is, there's a coach/selector with a Division One county (not All Ireland champions) who will be on €93,000 for the season ahead.

@bigbar9 @maroonwhitepod Leave it to the lads watching the games I’d say Barry….by your reckoning, @StMichaelsGAA are still relying on @EddieHoareFG for scores even though the man hasn’t started a championship game since 2022 and didn’t play championship at all last year!

No 'mutual agreement' or words to that affect in Kevin McStay's Mayo departure note tonight. 'Relieved of his duties' sounds so much more abrupt. Had 3 years of 4 done. Probably wouldn't have continued anyway.

Imagine what @MayoGAA could achieve if they had inspiring leadership. What was one of the top five national sports franchises of the last decade has been let drift. No legacy. It’s just a hit and hope approach every year.

@MayoPodcast before ye discuss the next manager I'd like to officially state that I will not be allowing my name go forward for the position ;-)

@trevornaughton @MayoPodcast Family and work commitments don't allow it at this time Trevor, but fair play to Mayo GAA for the heartfelt message to someone who gave great service. They are a credit to ye 😂

@bigbar9 @peterswellman Any of the top centre forwards would destroy Daithí at 6, Barret, Lynch, Fitzgibbon, Kelly. Doesn’t have the legs anymore I’m afraid, surviving at 3 but along way from the days of best FB in the country

No more excuses from this point on. It has to be time to be ruthless in terms of squad. Young lads won’t improve unless they’re giving sufficient championship game time.

@peterswellman BTW, I'm not disagreeing with you, i do feel it's time for a slight change. I'd love to Cianan Fahy tried at 3 and move Daithi to 6, but there seems to be a narrative that we will get better with a lower average age and I don't agree with that

@bigbar9 I don’t have anything tangible to go on, unfortunately. Other than I do believe defeats are marginally easier to stomach with young players developing at this level. It’s the hope that kills you, I suppose.
