All our students deserve to be included and embraced in our schools. They deserve to see themselves in our curriculum and in our history lessons. This is yet another reprehensible attack from the Trump administration on our students’ dignity and core of our democratic principles.

The @UniteHereLocal1 workers who make sure our kids are fed each day shouldn't be struggling to feed their own families. It's past time for a fair and dignified wage for our lunchroom workers. They are essential to our school system, and they should be treated as such.

I'm proud to support Dr. King in her role as CEO. Her calm and principled decision making under pressure is just more evidence that she is the right person for this job.

May Day, or International Workers Day, is an important moment to recognize workers and the labor movement--especially here in Chicago. Those who'd like to participate and protest should of course do so. But families need to know they can send their children to school as planned.

Dr. King made the right choice by making sure May 1 continues to be a school day. The CPS schedule is published well in advance to make sure parents can plan and provide appropriate care for their kids. A few weeks notice of a day off just isn't responsible or fair to them.

A cancellation of school would be deeply unfair to working parents. This must remain a day of learning for all.

May 1st must remain a day of school for our students. The academic calendar has been set. Key end of year activities are planned. Our teachers are working hard to wrap up the year on a focused note. And our families count on our schools to do what they say.
