I'm sure there is more robust work on this, but fun learning process to try to deconstruct it myself Which factors have the strongest association with GE variation between individuals? Fibre phenotype? Body composition or other anthropometrics? 🤔

Thinking about gross efficiency & metabolic energy expenditure this morning. How much noise in measured GE could be attributed to day-to-day variation in RER? With some real data (linked👇) & simulation (this fig), it seems like RER cannot explain much of the variance in GE/EE?

Actually this is tighter than I expected GE test-retest agreement with {SimplyAgree} at 2.0 W/kg (<GET) in 20 trained cyclists SEM = 0.01% [0, 0.015] MDC = 0.03% Power output explains ~ 3% of total variance in GE between athletes from quick calculations RER explains ~8% 🤷‍♂️

Dit weekend is wel heel dramatisch maar ook de drie vorige wedstrijden hadden gevaarlijke finishes op smalle wegen of met bochten en versmallingen in de laatste 200m. Hier zijn veel redenen voor te bedenken maar punt blijft, het Nederlandse jeugdwielrennen zit in een crisis.

De Toekomstcup vormt op dit moment de belangrijkste serie nationale wedstrijden voor nieuwelingen en junioren. Dat de meerderheid van de wedstrijden een probleem heeft met de veiligheid is een heel slecht teken voor de toekomst van het Nederlandse wielrennen.

We hebben zojuist het besluit genomen om de wedstrijden te cancelen. Deze beslissing is genomen door de competitieleider de UCI Safetymanager. Uiteraard in overleg met jury, KNWU en organisatie.

@jens_dekker @BuenoxedKid What I want to emphasise is that there are many junior women that like to race UCI cx races. So organisers do it! It was unfortunate that there was no WJ race in Baal this year.

Given that 16-year-old Rafaelle Carrier finished today's women elite race in 1:04 hrs... Do we really need a u16, u17, u19, and a u23 race for men/boys in Koksijde? But no u19 women's race?
