My heart is heavy as I reflect on the loss of my friend Tom Davin.    Tom was a Force Reconnaissance Marine who entered the business world after earning his MBA from Harvard going from Goldman Sachs to PepsiCo to COO of Taco Bell to CEO of Panda Express to CEO of 5.11 Tactical to co-CEO of BRCC.      We met well over a decade ago when I was still in the SEAL Teams.  What always stood out to me about Tom is that regardless of how busy he was, he ALWAYS made time for me.  When I was in my last few years in the Teams, I would drive up to 5.11 in Orange County to see him.  I am sure he had a thousand more important things to do, but he took the time for me and never made it feel like an imposition – I’ll never forget that.  He would later live much of the year in Park City, UT where we would get breakfasts, lunches and dinners whenever possible.  It is safe to say that without Tom Davin my novels might never have seen the light of day.     In what would be our final exchange about a month before his passing, he once again sent words of encouragement even as his health situation deteriorated.  That sort of outlook and optimism was pure Tom – a friend and mentor to the end.  I had sent him the trailer for the latest tv show and let him know I was thinking of him and his family, sending prayers. I think it is appropriate to share that text here because it captures so much of what made Tom so special.  This is what he wrote:   “The trailer is exceptional. Well done! It’s my honor to cheer for you (and your family) as you have lived your own hero’s journey. For Jack Carr, success was never guaranteed, but failure was never a potential outcome.  Your prayers and positivity mean a great deal.  Like some of the predicaments James Reece encounters, my situation looks bleak, with few options to turn the tide of the battle. But I’ll never quit, and with family and friends like you at my side, I might just beat all the odds. - Tom”   Thank you for everything, Tom.  My thoughts, prayers, and love are with you, Molly and your daughters.  I will never forget you, what you stood for, and how you treated others.  You are an example for us all.     Semper Fidelis    Tom Davin 1957 – 2025
