God just didn’t create the earth in six days, He created the heavens and the earth in six days. “Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days…” (Surah Al-A‘raf 7:54) The earth is just one of 200-400 Billion planets in a galaxy of 2 trillion galaxies. Everything we see of 2 trillion galaxies is just 4% of what is out there, (the observable universe), we still don’t know 96% of the whole universe of the first heaven. And the first heaven compared to the second heaven is like a ring in a desert and so on. The 7 heavens compared to the Kursiy of Allah is like a ring in a desert. The 7 heavens and the kursiy of Allah compared to the throne of Allah is like a ring in a desert. To us, this is magnificent, to Almighty Allah, the whole of the heavens plus the Kursiy and the throne of Allah is just another kun fa yakun. He can decide to create or destroy it in a second. He is Allah The Almighty The All-Powerful He does as He wills, None can question His decree, And none can overturn His command, When He intends a thing, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is, His will is absolute, His power is complete, He gives to whom He wills, and withholds from whom He wills, He elevates whom He wills, and humbles whom He wills, He is never compelled, never constrained, Nothing in the heavens or the earth escapes His will, He is Allah… The Doer of whatever He wills, Perfect in His wisdom, even when we do not understand. The Creator of the heavens without pillars, The Fashioner of the human soul with perfect precision. The One who placed the stars as lamps in the sky, And set the sun and moon in perfect balance, The Giver of life and the Taker of it, The Ever-Living, who never dies, The Sustainer, whom all creation depends upon, The Knower of the seen and the unseen, The First, nothing came before Him, The Last, nothing will remain after Him, The Most High, above all that we can imagine, He is Allah… There is none worthy of worship except Him. Oladélé, this is the logical next step from the conversation we had yesterday. If you still remember, I argued about how we subconsciously shrink God to fit our finite human clock. Today, your question shows how we shrink God to fit human utility. The question of "what is their purpose" assumes that the universe is centered around human beings. We subconsciously think that if humans cannot live on a planet, build houses on it, or use its resources, then it is a waste of space. However, the universe was not created to be a human terrarium. It is theocentric. That is, it is centered around the Creator, not us as humans. To make it even clearer, think about it like this. A great king does not build a big palace because he intends to sleep in every single room. He builds it to reflect the scale of his power, his majesty, his wealth, and his sovereignty. If we apply this analogy to an infinite Creator, what does that tells you? It means that if God only created one tiny rock called Earth suspended in an empty void, it would not reflect infinite majesty. The terrifying vastness of space, the billions of galaxies, the brightness of stars, and the countless planets are there to force the human mind to look up and realize how incredibly small we are, and how immensely powerful He is. As a Muslim, I am forced to reflect how the Almighty God in the Quran addresses our human arrogance directly. In Surah Ghafir 40:57, Allah states that the creation of the heavens and the earth is far greater than the creation of mankind, but most people do not know. If we reflect on this, we would see that we are just a fraction of the story. The rest of the cosmos is fulfilling its own purpose and glorifying Him in ways we do not comprehend. Having said that, even on a purely physical and mechanical level, those other planets in our solar system serve a direct purpose for our survival. Take Jupiter and Saturn for specifics. Those huge gas giants act as cosmic shields. Their immense gravity pulls in comets and rogue asteroids that would have otherwise struck Earth and wiped out life long ago. They are standing guard in the dark so you can live down here. God did not create anything as a meaningless accessory. Every single rock floating in the dark has a purpose. We are just too focused on ourselves to see the broader architecture. Allah knows best.

Hello Lola, I am a Muslim, and our spiritual tradition has a very deep approach to raising children. I want to share some tips from our scholars that will be beneficial to you regardless of your faith. First of all, our theology teaches the concept of Fitrah. This means that every child is born with a pure heart. At six years old, she is not a criminal mastermind. She does not have a wicked soul. If she doesn’t have all these, then what is happening? The truth is that she is just lacking impulse control and testing boundaries. By this, if you look at her as a manipulator, you will fight her. However, if you look at her as a pure soul making mistakes, you will be able to guide her. Secondly, for every problem anyone faces today, it has been solved in history. The only problem is how to locate them. A classical scholar named Al-Ghazali wrote about child psychology over 900 years ago in his famous book “Ihya Ulum al-Din.” In his section on disciplining children, he gave a practical rule I want you to adopt going forward. He advised that parents should never push a child into a corner where they are forced to lie. When you ask a question you already know the answer to, her survival instinct kicks in. She cries and she lies to defend herself because she is scared of you. Stop interrogating her. Just look at her and state the fact. Say, I know you took this, and we are going to return it right now. Again, another scholar and sociologist Ibn Khaldun addressed this exact behavior in his masterpiece titled: “Al-Muqaddimah.” He warned that when a child is raised with harsh punishment, they learn deceit, trickery, and lying to protect themselves. This is why she is covering her tracks and crying to manipulate you. The fear of a harsh reaction is making her a better liar. Lola, do not attach a label to her. Do not ever call her a thief. If you attack her identity instead of her action, she will internalize it and grow into that dark label. Tell her the action is wrong but protect her dignity. Make her return the item. Do not fall for the tears. Hold her hand, walk her back to wherever she took it from, and make her hand it back and apologize. The discomfort of returning a stolen item teaches a much better lesson than beating her will ever do. Finally, I don’t know if you are a Muslim, but never underestimate the power of your own words. In our faith, we believe the prayer of a parent for a child goes straight to God without any barrier. Pray over her. Pray for her heart to be content and for her character to be straight. Keep doing this consistently and the habit will break. Allah knows best.
