Our global soil predictions at 30 m for 5 and 2 year periods (2000-2022+) are now available for viewing from world.soils.app; paper has just been published at @ESSD_journal (doi.org/10.5194/essd-1…). You can download GeoTIFFs (open data license) with 5-year predictions of soil carbon content, soil carbon density (kg/m3), soil pH, soil texture fractions, bulk density and USDA subgroup soil types. We are working on a systematic update and on adding more soil variables + getting a better estimate of organic soils. Stay tuned for updates and new data releases. With many thanks to the reviewers and comments; funding from @landcarbonlab and @REA_research funded @EarthMonitorOrg and @AI4SoilHealth projects. Also many thanks to all organizations sharing and maintaining soil (field) laboratory data without this work would not have been possible: USDA NRCS National Soil Survey Center, the Africa Soil Information Service (AfSIS), the European Soil Data Center, ISRIC – World Soil Information and many others. Many thanks to all co-authors also for helping collate the biggest predictive soil mapping project to the date. Paper: doi.org/10.5194/essd-1… Data: github.com/openlandmap/so… Webinar: youtu.be/443HBf1GIGI?si… Join some of our upcoming events to learn about this data, how to access and use it, and how to potentially extend and improve it: earthmonitor.org/global-worksho…. It took me almost 8 years to move from 250 m to 30 m resolution. Next update should take exponentially less time hopefully.

🌿 New blog post! How does nitrogen shape plant responses to rising CO₂? In short: leaf-level responses are driven by nitrogen demand, while whole-plant growth is constrained by nitrogen supply. Read more: 🔗 research.reading.ac.uk/lemontree/how-… @EvanPerkowski

Huge congratulations @Yulin47136385! Our former PhD student made this important paper @NaturePlants which revealed crucial roles of plant traits on regulating light use efficiency ☘️ Co-authors include our multiple alumni including @DechantBenjamin @ChongyaJiang Bolun Li & Qu Sai 💐

🌱 Our team recently explored how plants across the globe make the most of sunlight. We found that traits like leaf lifespan and chlorophyll content—alongside climate—play key roles in shaping photosynthetic efficiency. 🌍💡 nature.com/articles/s4147…
