Researchers from Loughborough and @uniofglos have uncovered how sundews become more carnivorous in certain habitats 🌱 They alter the density of their leaf tentacles and the uptake of nitrogen from prey to thrive in different microhabitats. Read more ➡️ lboro.uk/4atiCkP

@DrJonMillett Really interesting work here! Fungal symbiosis may also help explain the number of unannotated metabolites we found that are likely to have a role in plant carnivory.

Really lovely detailed work showing that fungi help carnivorous pants digest Prey. I wonder how many of the secondary metabolites that @biohatcher measured (here: academic.oup.com/aob/article/12…) in D. capensis after prey capture are in fact synthesised by this fungi.

I am really excited to report one of the most exciting findings that we found!! 🌿Summary: we identified a fungus that is ecologically dominant and lives on the stalk gland of sundew! And the fungus facilitates its prey digestion!!! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… thread below⬇️

Third year of letting it go wild and finally the Cinnabar moth caterpillars are on the Ragwort. To me this feels like a greater conservation win than beavers in enclosures! Celebratory glass of wine time.

Blimey, I bet the peat corer was heavy coming out of this one
Alice Milner@alicemmilner

Many #peatlands have a few metres of peat below the surface & are important carbon stores. But this site in Greece-Tenaghi Philippon-has nearly 200m of peat accumulated over >1 million yrs! Our new @NatureComms paper highlights valuable information we can learn from #peat records

Field site recce visit with @DrLABest, @biohatcher and @JuliaWE88 today for undergraduate teaching and postgraduate research projects. Lovely to see a fine herd of Longhorn cattle being used for grazing as a surrogate for the extinct aurochs 🐮

What? Are you serious. "doing the right things" A huge unfunded tax giveaway to the top 1% is "doing the right things"? Biggest tax cuts in 50 years when public sector are breaking due to under-funding is "doing the right thing". What a bizzare thing to say.
