On March 24, 2026, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) took part in a high-level Banana Sector Strategy Review convened by the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (@birdcuganda). As a key stakeholder, MUBS contributed strategic insights in marketing, enterprise development, and value chain optimization to support the development of a country-wide banana sector strategy for FY 2026/27–2030/31. The engagement reaffirmed MUBS’ commitment to driving research-led, market-oriented solutions that enhance value addition, expand market access and promote sustainable growth within Uganda’s agro-industrial sector.

The Director General of PIBID/@birdcuganda, Prof @floriemura, attended the prestigious @Official_UOC/CGU Awards Dinner 2026 held at Mestil Hotel & Residences and organized jointly by the @UOC_media During the dinner, Prof. @floriemura was officially unveiled as the Nutrition Ambassador for both the Uganda Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Uganda, a recognition of her outstanding work in promoting nutrition, healthy living, and food innovation in support of sports and community wellbeing. Through her leadership at BIRDC, she has been instrumental in advancing the development of nutritious banana-based food products, particularly through the Tooke brand, which promotes healthy energy foods suitable for athletes, learners, and active lifestyles. Her appointment strengthens the growing collaboration between the sports sector and food innovation institutions, highlighting the critical role that nutrition plays in athlete performance, recovery, and overall health. It also reinforces the importance of locally developed, value-added foods in supporting Uganda’s sports ecosystem and national development. Partner Engagement – Knowledge Sharing and Training The engagement focused on knowledge sharing and capacity building, as the delegation visited @birdcuganda for a specialized training session on the banana value chain and value addition. The training aimed at equipping the participants with practical knowledge and insights on research, innovation, and opportunities within the banana value chain. As part of the engagement, @birdcuganda handed over training information and reference materials to the leadership of the delegation to support continued learning and application of the knowledge gained during the training. The session concluded with a symbolic exchange of gifts, where PIBID/BIRDC presented books to the delegation, while the Commandant offered a token of appreciation to the Director General @floriemura, recognizing PIBID/BIRDC’s leadership in research, training, and promoting value addition. The engagement reaffirmed the importance of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and partnerships in driving innovation and sustainable development.
