You can hear the hawk’s distinctive call in this video clip. You’ll also notice the Canada Geese didn’t stick around very long.

I heard it before I saw it, the unmistakable screeching of a Red-Tailed Hawk. Perched high in a tree in my neighbourhood, screaming out a regular intervals.

@tcdixon3 Looks like a Swainson’s Hawk to me. Hawks are hard; there are so many plumage variations - I could be wrong. The call of the Swainson’s is thinner sounding than a Red-tail. Swainson’s are more comfortable around people, whereas Red-tails will fly if you get close.

@tcdixon3 @FisherSpeaks @GoingWildTV Mountain Chickadees have become more common in the city. They used to be hard to find even in winter. Now they are seen regularly in the boreal forests of the west end, even in summer.

@FisherSpeaks @GoingWildTV I took my boys for a walk in Griffith Woods today. There were many Black-Capped Chickadees but also one Mountain Chickadee in the bunch. Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of it. Is it unusual to see them in Calgary? From what I read it’s uncommon.

A few plants we saw today during Day 1 of the #CityNatureChallenge in #YYC!
So far Pasqueflower is the #1 observation by a long shot! They are pretty, but let's not forget about the others starting to flower 😀🌻
