@wuthnhs Happy International Day of the Midwife to all WUTH Midwives and the staff who support them. We had a great breathwork session to thank them this morning- albeit without a picture 🥰

I’m nervous yet full of pride. After 4 years of planning and sleepless nights our Documentary ‘Our Family and Autism’ airs tonight at 9pm on @BBCOne I really hope it helps folk understand Autism a little better, along with all it’s highs and lows. #ourfamily #ourfamilyandautism

Midwives and other maternity workers can only offer safe and rights respecting care if they are well looked after. The midwives we work with tell us things have never been this bad.

@lornamidwife @BirthSalford @millihill The issue of being unable to wait until labour lies with staffing and theatre time. Harder to plan for a CS once a woman goes in to labour. Easier to staff a theatre then book women in to slots. Issues around maternity systems not being adaptable to women's needs, funding etc

Question for the obstetricians ... If a woman wants / needs to have an elective caesarean, but wants to go into labour spontaneously first, then go to surgery, is that recommended or not? Thanks x

@millihill Not an obs but a mw - would say if reasons for wanting cs are psychological waiting for labour to start risks more trauma - depending on clinical need at time could be waiting for a long time whilst potentially advancing in labour all the time, also possibly complicating the cs

@MisraNeha @millihill @Mayra_K11 How does a history of trauma make a woman 'want' a CS over 'needing' one? How is that different to any other clinical need? 'Want' implies a choice. Trauma is not a choice. Clinical need exactly that whether based on mental or physical health. There should be no differentiation.

@millihill @Mayra_K11 Yes certainly. These are all reasons for choosing a cesarean - I assume they came under ‘want’. Need being when it’s not an option. This is great question still. I see only a few reasons why docs can’t wait till the natural cues to set in.

THANK YOU to all the #perinatalmentalhealth #occupationaltherapists who completed the survey re: training. Attended a very productive meeting yesterday planning the design and content of the blended learning programme, the responses are an invaluable guide and insight! #ValueofOT
