@xqq437 The Taliban is way worse than the Islamic Republic, but you never see Afghans hating Islam like Iranians do. Even the secular liberal Afghans in the diaspora don’t hate Islam.
Without the Islamic Republic, Shiism in Iran would have ended up like Christianity in Europe at best.

The argument that one denomination or sect (e.g. Rahbari ‘Usuli Twelver Shi’i in the case of the IRI) is truer than any others can only work if you operate within the religious framework. Outside of it then all factions are levelled out, all interpretations bear equal veracity

@xqq437 I think I see interpretation as being rooted in present day practice, and history, and scripture. I find this critique of ex-Muslims strange because it treats Islam as a blank slate that can have an infinite range of valid interpretations… which is hardly ever how Muslims see it
