Wekelijks worden meisjes en vrouwen bedreigd, mishandeld of erger—vermoord in naam van een eer die niets anders is dan een excuus voor sociale controle en onderdrukking. Als een moslim die geboren en opgegroeid is in een Arabisch (islamitisch) land, kan ik zeggen: dit is geen religie. Dit is geen geloof. Dit is een misplaatste obsessie met (helaas te vaak patriarchale) sociale controle die in meerdere culturen en gemeenschappen voorkomt. De cijfers liegen niet. Dit gaat verder dan afkomst of religie. Eer red je niet met geweld/doden eigen familieleden. Eer vernietig je ermee.
